Can you handle the truth? Here it is. Drawing an action hero is harder than drawing a booger. Action heroes have a lot going on in regard to posture, structure and anatomy. A simple comedic figure like a cartoon booger is primarily based off of one shape like an amorphous blob, making the booger a pretty simple doodle with not a lot going on. The comic hero is taking action which adds complexity to the character because action heroes are usually always in motion taking some kind of action. This could be running, escaping, or fighting their enemy or something related to this nature. To draw the booger all you need to do is draw a funny circle add eyes, mouth, arms, and legs and there you go, you got a cartoon booger. What makes the action hero complex is all of the different components of the character, for example, the head and body have to work together in order to express the action that is taking place. In order to do this, you have to take into account posture, structure, and anatomy. What I like to do when creating an action hero is to layout a body map of sorts, based on the type of action that is being displayed by the character. This map consists of basic lines and simple shapes which aid in keeping the character aligned in regard to posture. Creating a body map for your character will help you to keep its proportions aligned and in order giving your character a sense of animation. It's important that the head and body work together with the arms and legs to give your character a realistic look. So, here it is! the Truth! Drawing action heroes is harder than drawing boogers but drawing boogers can be pretty fun.
